American holidays usually celebrate a patriotic ( 爱国的 ),
political, or religious event of the past. Among the patriotic
holidays are Labor Day, Veterans' Day, Columbus Day,
and Thanksgiving Day. Political holidays include Washington's
Birthday, Lincoln 's Birthday, and Independence Day. Many
Americans think of two religious holidays — Easter and
Christmas — as the most important celebrations of the year.
A study of patriotic holidays in the United States suggests
some American values. Labor Day, celebrated on the first Monday
of September, honors the hard-working people of the country.
