W: I didn’t know you were interested in art.

M: Yeah. I love to paint in my spare lime. Because I’m a banker, many people assume I studied economics. But I actually majored in art history.

M: It was pretty fun. Unfortunately, when I got to the airport in Phoenix, I discovered that the airline had lost one of my suitcases.

W: Oh no! That’s very inconvenient.

M: Yeah. I was upset because I had gifts for my family in there.

W: Have they located it? My suitcase was lost when I flew to New Orleans last year. I was worried that I’d never see it again…

M: Yeah, they found it. It was accidentally put on a flight to Seattle. So, they’re sending it back to Phoenix.

W: Well, that’s a relief!

M: Yeah, but it won’t arrive until midnight. So, the airline will have an employee bring it to my house in the morning.

W: Well, at least the airline has good customer service!

M: Yeah. I’ve been pretty happy with it.

M: What are you doing this Saturday, Jean?

W: Well, first thing in the morning, I’m going to take my driving test

M: Really? I thought you had a driver’s license!

W: No. I’ve never needed one. I’ve always lived in Boston, and it’s easy to get around on public transportation. But now, I’m taking a job in Los Angeles.

M: Congratulations!

W: Thanks! But everyone knows that to live in LA, you have to drive. So, I’ve been taking lessons, and I’m going to lake my test tomorrow.

M: Are you planning to buy a car once you pass your test?

W: Yes. I’ve already picked out the car I want --- a 2016 Honda Accord.

M: Oh, that’s a nice-looking car.

W: It is, but Pm not buying it for that reason. It has the safely features that I want M: Such as?

W: Well, it has a back view camera. As a new driver, I feel more comfortable with that than with just a back view mirror.

M: That makes sense. My Toyota has that, too.

W: I do have a couple of questions... First, I noticed that your income dropped last year. Can you explain that?

M: Yes. I started my own law company last year. For the first few months, we didn’t have a lot of customers. But we have many customers now. We are on track this year to earn a large profit.

W: I see. Starting your own business is very ambitious. Did you have to take out a business loan for that?

M: No. I got help from my family and friends.

W: Very well. So, I see that you are looking to buy a $500,000 house. Will you be buying it by yourself?

M: Yes. I am not married.

W: How much money will you put down on the house?

M: 20%.

W: All right, sir. Well, thank you for this information. I need to review this application with our senior loan officer before we can give you a final answer. You can expect to hear from us by the end of the week.

As always, we are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and on weekends from 8:00 a.m. to noon. These meetings begin at 10 o’clock on Saturday mornings throughout the term. They last for one hour. You will learn all about how to find the information you are looking for in our library databases. Many of you have used our reservation system to borrow assigned books for your classes. Beginning in the spring term, you will also be able to check out electronic copies of these books as well. No more waiting in line for books! Request and read them immediately on your computer, tablet, or smart phone. Do you love spending time in the library, even when you don’t have anything due for your classes? Well, we’re hiring! If you think you’ve got what it takes to be part of this relaxed work environment, please ask for an application for a part-time job at our front desk.
