W: I was born in Istanbul, but I live in Scotland now. My dad’s Scottish. My mom’s Turkish.
M: You’re only 17. What’s it like being successful at your age?
W: It’s pretty exciting. I get to travel, and meet some interesting people.
M: You’re touring now, but what are your plans for the future?
W: After the tour, I want to take a break. Then later this year, I plan to make a new CD.
M: Great. Do you have any advice for other young artists?
W: Well, I’d say follow your dreams. Work hard, and you can be successful.

M: I’m not kidding! I really want to change. And when I’m rich and famous…
W: Really? Oh, I remember, you’re going to become a famous race car driver.
M: No. That was last week.
W: You’re going to be a rock and roll star?
M: No way! I can’t sing. I’m going to write a book that sells a million copies.

Today, we’ll focus on the Chinese 24 solar terms. Nowadays the year consists of 24 solar terms, but during the Shang Dynasty people only used four; the Zhou Dynasty, eight; but it was in the Western Han Dynasty that the 24 terms were finally decided upon.
The 24 solar terms were created by farmers in ancient China to guide farming activities. They were based on the sun’s position and reflected the changes in climate, natural phenomena, agricultural production, and other aspects of human life, including clothing, food, housing, and transportation.
There were many customs about these terms. For example, on the Winter Solstice, Dongzhi, people in northern China ate steaming hot dumplings to keep warm. On the day of the Beginning of Summer, people drank tea to fight the hot weather. And Pure Brightness was also called “Cold Food Festival”.
