W: How soon do I have to leave my room?
M: Normally it’s by 12 noon on the day of your departure.
W: Well, you see, my plane doesn’t go till half past five tomorrow afternoon.
M: Room number? Please.
W: Room 577.The name is Browning.
M: Ah yes, Mrs. Browning. You may keep your room till 2 p.m. if you wish.
W: Oh, that’s nice. By the way, how long will it take to get to the airport from here?
M: It’s usually a 90-minute ride. But you’d better start off at two thirty in case there is a traffic jam on the way.
W: Thank you very much.
M: It’s a pleasure.

W: Could you please tell us how you found out about our service?
M: I saw your TV commercial late last night, the one with the girl and a computer.
W: I see. And what free choice will you take with your membership?
M: I want to use your discussion boards so that I can find out about other members’ opinions.
W: No problem, and is there anything else we can do for you today?
M: Well, I am worried about other people finding out who I am. I really don’t want to be known by others.
W: It’s not possible for members to get any personal information about you or other members. All of that is private. No exceptions.
M: Oh, I am really glad to hear that.
W: Very good. We appreciate you joining us as a new customer.

M:
I’m a student at Washington University. I’m very busy with my studies, seldom hanging out with friends for shopping. But I always find time to write several letters every week. I like to receive mail, and you have to write letters if you want to hear from your friends.
I was quite disappointed this morning. The postman delivered the mail and I received five letters, a package, and two postcards. But I didn’t get the letter I was waiting for.
Later in the day,the mailman delivered a special letter. I was very happy to receive it,and I think you will understand why I let you read the letter.
This is the letter:
Dear Jim,
This is your first year at the university and the first time you have been away from home on your birthday. Your mother and I miss you very much. We often talk about how quickly you have grown up. We know you’re very busy at the university, but we’re glad you are able to write to us so frequently. Both your mother and I are fine, and your younger brothers are in good health, too. They asked me to wish you a happy birthday for them. I’m enclosing some money as a gift for your birthday. You can buy whatever you wish with it. Write to us whenever you can. We would enjoy seeing some photographs of you and the university.
