中国教育工作者早就认识到读书对于国家的重要意义。有些教育工作者2003年就建议设立全民读书日。他们强调，人们应当读好书，尤其是经典著作。通过阅读，人们能更好地学会感恩、有责任心和与人合作，而教育的目的正是要培养这些基本素质。阅读对于中小学生尤为重要，假如他们没有在这个关键时期培养阅读的兴趣，以后要养成阅读的习惯就很难了。
【考点解析】
本次英语四级翻译题中要求我们总共翻译5句话，重点考查了以下结构。
1. 早就认识到…
Have realized for a long time…/have long realized …
2. …建议…
suggest/advise/propose等表示建议的词，后面的宾语从句要用虚拟语气: should do/do
3. 学会感恩、有责任心和与人合作：
learn to be grateful, responsible and cooperate with others
这里的“感恩，有责任心和与人合作”可以用形容词表达也可以变成相应的名词形式，即：gratitude、responsibility and cooperation
4. 培养基本素质：
cultivate basic qualities
这里的“培养”除了可以用cultivate之外，还可以用其它的同义词来替换，比如develop, foster, train等等。
5. “阅读对于中小学生尤为重要，假如他们没有在这个关键时期培养阅读的兴趣，以后要养成阅读的习惯就很难了。”最后一个句子很长，处理成英文，可以断为两个句子。
Reading is particularly important for primary and middle school students. If they don’t develop the interest of reading during the crucial period, it is difficult to get into the habit of reading later.

China's education workers have realized for a long time the importance of reading to the country. Some of them have suggested that the National Reading Day be set up since 2003.
