Shantou-Oxford Clinical Research Unit (SOCRU) was established at Shantou University Medical College (SUMC) on May 15, 2010 as collaboration between SUMC and the University of Oxford in the field of scientific research related to human health. The collaboration, lead by the director of SOCRU and the director of Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU), includes exchange of academic expertise, research ideas, and techniques held by both universities to facilitate scientific progress in and understanding of human health through clinical and public health research. SOCRU’s mission is to promote health through Research, Training, and Education. To achieve its goal, SOCRU is (i) providing opportunities to Chinese students and scientists to exchange academic expertise and research ideas with international scientists through domestic/oversea training and education at oversea universities, (ii) developing clinical research projects in SUMC-affiliated hospitals in Shantou, and (iii) collaborating with hospitals and universities in other cities and provinces in China to conduct multicenter-studies.

Desired qualifications
Scientists
· PhD (or equivalent) with at least 5 years of work experience in the related field with a strong publication record and a proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively across disciplines
· Fluent medical and scientific English
· Ability to design and perform independent research projects, supervise young scientists, publish scientific papers in English, teach in undergraduate Medicine programs (including English-stream Medicine program)
Associate scientists
· PhD (or equivalent) with at least 3 years of work experience in the related field
with a good publication record and a proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively across disciplines
· Fluent medical and scientific English
· Ability to design and perform independent research projects, supervise young scientists, publish scientific papers in English, teach in undergraduate Medicine programs (including English-stream Medicine program)
Research Associates
· Masters or PhD with at least 2 years of work experience in the related field with a good publication
· record
· Good medical and scientific English
· Ability to work with minimal supervision, design and perform independent research projects, publish scientific papers in English
Research Associate (Biostatistician)
· Masters or PhD in Biostatistics with at least 2 years of work experience with a good publication record
· Good medical and scientific English
· Ability to work closely with investigators in project design and data analysis, design and perform independent research projects, publish scientific papers in English
Research Assistants
· Bachelor or Masters with good medical and scientific English
· Strong motivation to learn, strong adherence to scientific integrity, ability to design and perform supervised research projects, and publish scientific papers in English
Postdoctoral fellows
· PhD (or equivalent) with at least 2 first-authored peer-reviewed publications
· Fluent medical and scientific English
· Ability to work with minimal supervision, design and perform independent research projects, publish scientific papers in English
Appointment term
· Tenure-track (PhD holders with desired experience)
· Yearly extendable contract (Master holders)
· Initial 3-yr appointment with tenure-track possibility (Postdoctoral fellows)
