“I wanted to teach my daughter about to teach other kids in the community, too.”
Children make their deliveries around the 15th of the month when money from monthly Social Security checks begins to run out and tough decisions between food and other needs have to be made.
“I am on a fixed income and the food has helped me out considerably,”says Linda Testennan, a food receiver.”
“It was really fun, and it was great to make the senior citizens happy,”says Campbell. “It was really cool.”
Sofia Merkowitz, another Food on the 15th volunteer, agrees. “I really liked it because it made me feel really good that people were so happy that they got food.”
Rosenthal says that is why she has children do more than fill a bag with donated food.
“We want the children to have firsthand experience delivering the food to the people so that they can get that feeling of really making a difference in somebody’s life, a positive difference.”
The program started with one school delivering 30 bags of groceries. It has grown each year, and now involves 10 schools and several churches. Food on the 15th has delivered more than12, 000 bags so far. Rosenthal’s goal is to expand Food on the 15th across the country and around the world.

Hello Peter! How are you going these days?
In order to provide us students with an opportunity to exchange books and make better use of used books, our Student Union held a campus book fair on the afternoon of February 15,2012.
At the book fair, students could sell unwanted books, buy needed books or simply trade books with each other. Like other fairs of this kind, prices were typically very low. Happily, I not only got rid of several books but also bought a few books I really wanted.
As far as I’m concerned, I like this activity, which is beneficial to us students. On the one hand, I felt my social skills had been well practiced and improved. On the other hand, this activity also gave us an excellent opportunity to feel a bit of the real world. I wish more events like this book fair would be held in our school.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Love,
Li Hua

In English-speaking countries, when you receive an invitation you should answer it immediately, saying whether you are able to accept it or not . If the invitation is given by word of mouth, you should answer at once whether you can come or not. If you can not given an answer at that time, you may say, “May I let you know this evening ?” or some such words.
When you are invited to lunch or supper, it is very impolite to arrive late. When you arrive, the hostess or some members of the family will probably meet you at the door and take your coat and hat. In a few minutes the hostess will ask her guests to come in to dinner. She may or my not ask each gentleman to take a lady in, If she does, the lady will take the gentleman’s arm as they walk into the dining room If she does not ,the ladies will go in first, followed by the gentlemen. The hostess will either point out their seats to the guests as they come in or have a place card at each place with the guest’s name on it.
After the meal is over it is not polite to leave for at least half an hour, lest you seem to have come only for the meal. An evening dinner invitation usually implies that you stay for the whole evening. The hostess often plans some after-dinner entertainment.
