One possible version
I would shudder at the thought of a world in which people have no gratitude for their country, society, family and those who helped them because gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but also cultivates all others.
Ideally, one inch of help deserves one mile of gratitude; if it is hard to be so for most ordinary people, at least one inch of help should be repaid by one inch of gratitude.
